Behind neat lace curtains, Proserpina Brown, known simply as Pina, endures a life of quiet desperation. Her husband, the pompous local councillor, expects nothing more than regular meals, clean linen and her complete attention as he drones on about parking disputes and traffic lights.

When an enigmatic neighbour named Harald moves in next door and begins cultivating a mysterious espalier along their shared fence, Pina’s mundane world starts to crack.
